Last week I was in bus #2059 - one of those with those crazy backward facing seats which mashes your knees against those facing you - and I began to wonder whatever became of another style of Metro bus that I hadn't seen in 30 years. I bet one of you guys knows....
Long ago, I was living in Hyattsville and taking it to the Rhode Island station. With some fanfare, IIRC, Metro rolled out a new style of bus which I've since not seen since moving to Virginia a short while later.
The bus was rather modern looking, by 1980s standards: The inside was, I think, white molded fiber glass. And the most distinctive characteristic about it for me was that rather than using a pull cord to request a stop, one pressed anywhere on a rubbery strip that ran vertically between the windows. I thought perhaps those low-tech pull cords were about to become a thing of the past. But obviously not.
Whatever happened to that style of bus?
Just curious...
