Metrobus is having it's ridership on the X-2 line siphoned off by the H Street Shuttle, which provides free rides from Gallery Place out H St. The District government is subsidizing this service, which amounts to "hustling backwards"- in other words, going against it's own interests, since DC in fact already subsidizes the X-2 metrobus line out H St. The truth is, this is a service to keep the yuppies from having to ride with the working class, the "common folk"; using the torn up streets as a justification doesn't fly, since there is already Metrobus service. If the service isn't up to par, then every effort should be made to improve it. However there just can't be any way to justify the shuttle as a taxpayer supported free service. Let the businesses subsize it and the riders pay, but get DC tax dollars out of the equation! Otherwise, DC is cutting off it's nose to spite it's face.
